If Kane makes it to 100 points I think it will be hard to take it away from him, but Kanes last 5 games have not been that productive and Crosby is playing to make the playoffs. Will be intresting.

Where are the Islanders fans to tell all how the Hart is for MVP to their team and therefore belings to Tavares.

I hate the blogs that insinuate any sort of comparison between Crosby/Malkin and Toews/Kane or the Pens and Hawks. Comment section always turns into a poop storm.

Gotta give it to the person who was consistent throughout the season even though Johnston stifled Crosby.

Then again if he goes on a tear and Kane quiets down it could be close.

Toews is all Hart, Kane is a rapist.
Crosby is mostly Hart, Malkin is Russian.

Draw your own conclusions.

If he continues to play at this level he deserves it. I happen to believe there SHOULD be a recency bias. Taking your team from the last spot in the wildcard to a shot at home ice advantage in the first round is no small feat. Especially with Malkin going down.

On the other hand, Kane is slowing down and Chicago is struggling.

If Chicago continues to sputter down the stretch and the Pens continue this level of play resulting in 2nd place in the Metro, I think Sid should get it.

It should be noted that Crosby has been absolutely carrying the team for months now.

Edit... Can't forget about Letang too. Those two guys have been amazing.

So which is it? Has he been carrying the team, or have he and Letang been sharing the load?

Not disagreeing that his name should be in the mix, just wondering which case it true.

This is fun and all, but I think we can all agree that Crosby will never be a truly great player unless he wins the Art Ross, Hart, Selke, Norris, Vezina, and at least gets nominated for the Jennings, all in the same year.

The problem with figuring in recency bias is that you negate the fact the Crsoby's early season struggles greatly contributed to the fact that he had to be so lights out down the stretch while fighting for a playoff stop. We can blame MJ all day for Crosby's struggles but at the end of the day what makes truly great players great is the fact that they are able to find a way to contribute and be productive under any circumstance, not just when the stars are perfectly aligned for them. I'm by no means saying Crosby isn't great but if he's so great and the greatest player in the world then shouldn't he be expected to fall on him to find a way to excel in a system that may not be a perfect fit for him? Malkin's production may have dipped from his normal level but he was still finding a way to produce at an exceptable level and was carrying the team on his back many nights under MJ. I guess it just frustrates me that it's constant excuse making ever time the stars aren't aligned perfectly and he struggles.

As for the MVP, the definition of the award itself clouds the conversation but I would find it hard to support a player that play half the season great and half the season poorly regardless of the circumstances behind why he performed poorly. If I remember correctly Ovechkin was in a similar situation a few years back where he started the season slow but then went on a tear at the end of the season, didn't win the Hart and the common rational was that his early season struggles made it impossible for him to be the MVP.

He didn't do that already? Maybe he should have his C taken away and be shipped out.

Realistically, Crosby has given you only 3 less points at 5v5 than Kane while playing some of the best defense in hockey. Of course he deserves the Hart.
